Talking about the difference between silicone mold and plastic mold

Author: MULAN -Plastic Molding Manufacturer

1. Differences in materials Silicone molds are special mold glues for making handicrafts. Generally, silicone and curing agent are mixed and stirred evenly according to a certain ratio, and then cured at room temperature or under heating conditions. It has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, strong tear resistance, and high simulation precision. Silicone is a thermosetting material and is generally injection molded.

Silicone has good fluidity, so the silicone mold does not need to use a water outlet, and the price is cheaper than the plastic mold. Plastic mold is the abbreviation of a combined mold for compression, extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, and low foam molding, so it is also called: plastic mold or injection mold. It has the characteristics of being able to process plastic parts of different shapes.

Plastic is a thermoplastic material, and it is usually molded by injection molding. Plastic mold has the title of the mother of industry, and now many new product releases will involve plastic. Second, the difference in structure. The material of the silicone mold is mold silicone. The general structure is composed of five components: base rubber, cross-linking agent, catalyst, filler and additive. In fact, the base rubber, cross-linking agent and filler are a group. The catalyst is used as a component alone, which is why the mold silicone is a two-component room temperature silicone.

The structure of the plastic mold mainly includes a concave mold with a variable cavity consisting of a die combination base plate, a die assembly and a die combination clamp. A punch with a variable core consisting of a cavity section assembly and a side section composite plate. In order to improve the performance of plastics, various auxiliary materials such as fillers, plasticizers, lubricants, stabilizers, colorants, etc. are added to the polymer. 3. Differences in use Silicone raw materials can be divided into solid silica gel and liquid silica gel according to their physical properties.

Solid silicone is mainly used for compression molded products. For example: silicone sleeves, silicone tableware, silicone molds, silicone buttons, etc., liquid silicone is mainly used for extruded products, such as silicone pacifiers, silicone tubes, etc. Plastic parts are widely used in every field of life today, such as household appliances, instruments, wires and cables, construction equipment, communication electronics, automobile industry, aerospace, daily hardware, etc.

The application of plastic is so wide and the use is so convenient that it has brought side effects. In some fields, people have to carry out a "plastic ban". Now environmental protection is a focus of people's attention. Silica gel is a new type of environmentally friendly raw material. With the development trend of society, the future development prospect of silica gel is still great, and it is bound to get better and better. Silica gel has more uses. It will also be discovered slowly. In contrast, plastic is more harmful to the environment. If no reasonable solution can be found, it will be replaced by silica gel.
